Anne Schwanewilms soprano

Malcolm Martineau piano

Metaphysical journeys

Anne Schwanwilms’ debut is one of the most anticipated at LIFE Victoria. Born in Germany, she excels in the specific female roles of Richard Strauss – her last appearance in Barcelona was Arabella at Liceu – but also in Wagnerian roles such as Elsa (Lohengrin) or Elisabeth (Tannhäuser), as well as in other titles such as Dialogue des Carmélites, Wozzeck and Otello. Inspired by the drama of the opera, the soprano is presented again in Barcelona in a program divided into four parts, four journeys of the soul that go over some of her headline recital composers. In the first part, Himmelfahrt (Ascensión) will play Mahler’s Lieder eteris, as Wo die Trompeten blasen and Debussy, as L’invitation au voyage, which gives its name to the 2020 edition. Strauss’s three Lieder d’Ofelia, their head composer, will focus the second part dedicated to Reisen in den Irrsinn (Travels to madness), while Debussy’s Lyrique Proses will focus the Traumreisen (Poetic Journeys). To finish Wolf’s Lieder they will put magic by closing with the last part Phantasiereisen (Journeys to Fantasy) this long-awaited recital.
