Carnival of the animals
Tibetan goats, swans, turkeys, lions, dolphins… all kinds of animals visit us in this programme designed by baritone Christopher Maltman and pianist Malcolm Martineau to be presented at LIFE Victoria next November 2018. Two of the most anticipated debuts in the Festival united in this recital. The English baritone dominates the Lied with the same ease as opera, being a regular at both the Salzburg Festival, the Royal Opera House or the Metropolitan Opera House as well as the Wigmore Hall or the Oxford Lieder. He will perform at the LIFE with his usual pianist, Malcolm Martineau who also accompanies artists such as Susan Graham, Anna Netrebko or Thomas Hampson, being thus one of the most prolific of his generation. This animal programme will be formed by cycles such as Le bestiaire by Poulenc or Histoires naturelles as well as Lieder by Schumann, Reger, Chabrier and Wolf. Will be closed with the songs composed by the comic duo formed by the actor and singer Michael Flanders and the composer, librettist and pianist Donald Swann, both of great popularity in the UK of the mid-century.
