Waltz-beat trip

The Liebeslieder Waltzer are a journey back in time. In the time of the waltz, rhythms transport us to a Europe of the past, from halls full of music and dance in circles to the rhythm of one, two, three… and that disappeared with World War I. Johannes Brahms composed these waltzes in two rounds between 1863 and 1871: the first round became the Liebeslieder Walzer Op. 52 and the second, the new love waltzes, were grouped into Neue Liebeslieder Op. 65. Composed in full boiling of the waltz (the blue Danube, for example, premiered in 1867), these Brahms pieces also look to the Ländler, a percutor dance of the waltz, and especially Schubert’s Vint Ländler, which Brahms knew well. A solvent cast of Catalan artists perform the integral of love waltzes in the fourth consecutive collaboration between the Palau de la Música Catalana and the Festival.
