Irish and Scottish Airs
Soprano Ellen Mawhinney and pianist Daniel Silcock, members of the Oxford International Song Young Artists Programme, come to LIFE Victoria as two of the most promising voices emerging from the British festival scene. Trained in one of the most prestigious development programmes dedicated to the vocal repertoire, they present a recital that highlights the unique partnership between singer and pianist—the very essence of the Lied—through a selection of Irish and Scottish songs in dialogue with Samuel Barber’s Hermit Songs. This highly personal journey towards their roots is especially meaningful as the soprano is from Northern Ireland and the pianist from Scotland. Once again, the collaboration between the English festival and LIFE Victoria as International Partners offers a new opportunity to discover two artists at the beginning of their international careers.
