The Victoria de los Ángeles Foundation and the Museu Tàpies join forces to offer a tribute to the Catalan soprano and painter on the centenary of their birth. The event will take place on Friday, September 20 at 7:00 PM, at the Museu Tàpies in Barcelona.

This is a recital performed by three young artists: soprano Montserrat Seró, pianist Marc Serra, and saxophonist Gisela Dekort, who will offer a program mainly dedicated to Xavier Montsalvatge, a composer admired by Tàpies and widely performed by Victoria de los Ángeles. The program is completed by works from various regions and styles by composers such as Falla, Matamoros, García Lorca, Mozart, Brahms, or Bernstein.

The tribute proposes a unique dialogue between music and painting, where the works of Tàpies can be appreciated and the significant international careers of both the painter and the soprano will be highlighted, as well as the close friendship and deep admiration they both cultivated. Victoria acquired several works by Tàpies that she kept in her home, and Tàpies treasured Victoria’s recordings, especially that of Carmen, which stood out among his extensive record collection.

The program for this recital is inspired by the musical tastes of both, as well as the importance that Montsalvatge had in the career of Victoria de los Ángeles, in order to remember three great names of Catalan culture who were recognized worldwide.
