Iberia III and IV: a dream from afar

Pianist Alba Ventura will continue her performance of Isaac Albéniz's Iberia suite, composed between Paris and the vicinity of Nice, where he moved for health reasons and where he died in 1909, just one year after completing this masterpiece. Born in Camprodon in 1860, he returned to Catalonia to be buried in Montjuïc Cemetery in 1909 following a massive funeral. Iberia is the composer's dream of an idealized country, eschewing folklorism while drawing from popular sources in a poetic and almost dreamlike way. In this second session, pianist Alba Ventura, who is also the director of the Marshall Academy, will perform Books III and IV of this monumental suite created by the Catalan composer as part of the Alicia de Larrocha series, which commemorates this great pianist and friend of Victoria de los Ángeles.
