The Languages of Exile
Exile is not only a geography, but also a way of inhabiting language and memory. This recital traces the fruitful dialogue between France and Spain through a repertoire that finds in French poetry a space for encounter. The mélodies of Claude Debussy and André Caplet evoke the creative flourishing of the Belle Époque, while Frederic Mompou, Manuel de Falla and Julio Gómez extend this legacy through their own distinctive sensibilities, shaped by the profound changes of the twentieth century. Falla, who would spend his final years in exile in Argentina, embodies a generation of creators for whom culture became their flag, transcending national borders. Through the voice of Adriana González, this season’s Artist-in-Residence, and the piano of Iñaki Encina Oyón, this programme champions music as a space for encounter, where beauty, memory and words continue to engage in dialogue beyond the borders of these two countries.
