Songs of Angels
This concert forms part of the centenary celebrations of Montserrat Torrent, one of the leading figures in contemporary Catalan music. Before becoming the driving force behind the revival of organ performance in Catalonia, Torrent was a member of Ars Musicae de Barcelona, the ensemble founded by Josep Maria Lamaña and Enric Gispert, which from the 1940s onwards played a pioneering role in the rediscovery of early music in Catalonia. It was within this artistic circle that she worked alongside Victoria de los Ángeles, sharing in a musical adventure that made a decisive contribution to reconnecting the country with its historical heritage in the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War. One hundred years after Torrent’s birth, this concert celebrates not only an extraordinary artistic career, but also a generation of musicians whose work was instrumental in rebuilding Catalonia’s cultural life and bringing it to the international stage.
