The renowned Catalan countertenor returns to the Lied Festival Victoria de los Ángeles on May 27 with a personal proposal centered on the concept of travel.
Sabata and Le Bozec will offer a musical journey from the 18th to the 20th century with various composers ranging from the Greek Manos Hadjidakis to the Spanish Manuel de Falla.
The evening will open with two young artists, soprano Sara Carmona and pianist Ester Lecha, who are part of LIFE New Artists.
Next Monday, May 27, at 8 PM,LIFE Victoriacloses the first half of the year with a recital by Catalan countertenor Xavier Sabata and French pianist Anne Le Bozec at the Sala Domènech i Montaner – Sant Pau Recinte Modernista.
Recognized as one of the great Spanish countertenors and one of the singers with the most acting virtues, Xavier Sabata returns to LIFE Victoria – after his success in Winterreise in 2021 – to offer a recital centered on the concept of travel, a constant in Victoria de los Ángeles’ career that marked her life, like that of any singer.
The program includes music from the 18th to the 20th century by various composers ranging from Giovanni Battista Perucchini to Luciano Berio, including the Greek Manos Hadjidakis and the Spanish Manuel de Falla, and also makes a direct nod to Victoria de los Ángeles’ centenary with Mompou’s song cycle Combat del somni, whose most popular song, Damunt de tu, només les flors, was premiered by the soprano in her debut at the Palau de la Música Catalana in 1944.
LIFE New Artists
As is tradition at LIFE Victoria, the evening will open with two young artists who are part of the new musical generation supported by the Victoria de los Ángeles Foundation, continuing the soprano’s legacy and educational mission.
On this occasion, it will be the turn of soprano Sara Carmona and pianist Ester Lecha, who will perform songs by Hahn, Toldrà, Mompou, Lacerda, Guridi, and Turina.
