Salvador Dalí’s fascination with Sigmund Freud transformed dreams, desire, and memory into the foundations of a creative universe where reality and the unconscious become intertwined. In dialogue with this imagery, Adriana González and Iñaki Encina Oyón present a journey through twentieth-century mélodie and Spanish song, a repertoire that explores the most intimate landscapes of the soul. The evocative worlds of Covatti and Caplet, Poulenc’s poetic gaze on the painters of Dalí’s era, the delicacy of Albéniz and Mompou, and the expressive power of Dussaut trace a path in which memory, love, nature, and artistic creation become symbols of an inner world. A programme in which poets play a central role, with particular emphasis on Paul Éluard and Federico García Lorca. According to some historians, Dalí shared a ménage à trois with Éluard and Gala, who had been Éluard’s partner before her relationship with Dalí—and to whom, interestingly, he did not dedicate a song in his cycle of painters. With Lorca, Dalí experienced a kind of platonic relationship during his time at the Residencia de Estudiantes in Madrid, before the Spanish Civil War.
