Núria Rial & Carles Blanch & Oleguer Aymamí

This collaboration between the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in Madrid and the Mauritshuis in The Hague invites audiences to rediscover their remarkable collections of sixteenth- and seventeenth-century art, a period when painting and music shared deep cultural connections, shaped in part by Spain’s enduring influence in the Low Countries. Within this context, soprano Núria Rial, joined by Carles Blanch on Baroque guitar and lute and Oleguer Aymamí on Baroque cello, presents a programme of songs and dances that once resonated through the courts of these European cities. Works by Luys de Narváez, Diego Ortiz, Juan Vásquez, José Marín, and Gaspar Sanz are placed in dialogue with those of the great Franco-Flemish masters, evoking a soundscape as refined as the paintings brought together in this exhibition, one of the highlights of the Madrid museum’s season. An intimate journey through song before the emergence of the Lied, where music, like painting, becomes a mirror of its time.
